This is a final pass to catch typographical errors, misspellings, and words that have been left out. Proofreading makes sure your writing looks professional after all other editing has been done. It is not enough to ensure a high-quality manuscript if no previous editing has been done. If I spot significant concerns that are beyond the scope of a proofread, such as a plot hole, I will alert the author as soon as possible.
The best proofreading is performed by a fresh eye—someone who has not seen previous drafts. For this reason, I usually proofread manuscripts that have been worked on by a different editor up to this point.
I offer proofreading at a rate of 1.5 cents per word (e.g., $105 for a 70,000-word manuscript) with a minimum order of $24 (for projects 16,000 words and under). Most proofreading can be delivered within a week or two, depending on my schedule.
To hire me for proofreading, get in touch at tarkenberg199(at)yahoo.com with the details of your book. If “Proofread” is in the subject line, the email will automatically go to my high-priority work folder.
