This is a final editing pass to catch typographical errors, misspellings, and words that have been left out. Proofreading is not enough to ensure a high-quality manuscript if no previous editing has been done. If I spot significant concerns that are beyond the scope of a proofread, such as a plot hole, I will alert the author as soon as possible.
The best proofreading is performed by a fresh eye—someone who has not seen previous drafts. For this reason, I usually proofread manuscripts that have been worked on by a different editor up to this point.
I offer proofreading at a rate of 2 cents per word ($120 for a 60,000-word manuscript). Most proofreading can be delivered within two weeks, depending on my schedule.
