A Personal Loss

Posted by on Jun 28, 2020 in Blog Posts, Featured, Uncategorized | 4 comments

Update 7/12/2020: I appreciate the outpouring of kind words. John is remembered on this memory wall at the Tribute Archive, where I’ve posted some pictures and the eulogy I read at a small ceremony with his family. Another small memorial will be held among his friends in the coming weeks.

I write this in a state of shock. My partner for just over a year, John, passed away last night or early this morning (the cause is still to be determined. I believe he went in his sleep).

He had recently moved to live with family in another state while preparing to apply to graduate schools. We’d been planning for me to make a long visit later in July.

I can only take things one day at a time. Today, it’s a comfort to remember the good times. Among many other things, John was a talented writer, and I’ve talked with his family about getting his stories published. (They tell me he would brag about how smart and talented I was, too.)

For now, I plan to continue working on editing projects that have been scheduled. Work is a comfort sometimes. But there may be interruptions or delays. Your understanding is appreciated.

I can be contacted at my email address.

He was a type B and 6 feet tall. I’m a type A and 5 foot two. In everything else, we were perfectly matched. (Even the differing personality types made us complimentary.)

Therese, I am so sorry. John seemed like a lovely person and I know you were so grateful to have him in your life.

Thank you, Sue. There’s comfort in the wealth of good memories (and eloquent texts and emails) he left behind, including the times he helped me volunteer at the Farmer’s Market booth. I wish I could have had him so much longer, but I’m so glad to have had him at all, and for him to have had me.
